"Lightcap nimmt uns mit auf seine Reisen und man spürt wirklich in jedem Moment des Albums, wie wichtig ihm das Thema ist und wie gern er Bilder in unseren Köpfen zum Leben erwecken möchte. Das gelingt ihm und so fühlen wir uns sehr wohl in seinen melancholischen Folk-Klängen." Soundkartell Review

Down in Portugal ist die zweite LP von Lightcap (2018 erschien Be True To Your Heart (LP); 2016 Companion(EP)).

Das Album wurde in fünf Studios (Frankfurt a.M., Den Haag, Weimar, Naumburg, Halle) mit Musikern aus sechs Ländern (Spanien, Niederlande, Deutschland, Rumänien, Litauen, Südkorea) aufgenommen.

Ride on that midnight special The train is going south The noble lady booked an extra seat for her cat So you can’t sit down She makes your dreams run wild The moon is sending pale light The curtain‘s red and thick A spy is in the darkness and He knows what you’ve been doing every bit He makes your dreams run wild But we don’t care about tomorrow We only care about tonight As long as our dreams run wild Shake up your heavy heart Dance some tango with me darling The crooner‘s voice is touching my emotions In a way that makes mе jive He makes my drеams run wild The cops don’t care about tomorrow They only care about tonight Oh I’m longing for your kisses As I suppose you long for mine I want my dreams to run run wild I harvest my emotions Put them on a tray Drink a glass of water To refill what I’ve been sweating out today To make my dreams run wild I don’t care about tomorrow I only want to be alive I don’t wanna be persuaded Or taken onto some dark side As long as my dreams run wild I don’t wanna be no p’liceman Nor some ordinary bride Yes I wanna be an actress With her wit and beauty shining bright Who makes my dreams run wild

Look at that girl She's got tears in her eyes Silver sunglasses And a face that smiles Look at that girl Being afraid of a war She's painting her nails For her drink at the bar I could swear I love her, but I don't have proof I could swear I love her, but I don't have proof Down in Portugal She's taking a ride Like a movie star Down the coastline All the hard luck sailors Wait for her in line At the slavery harbour In the morning time I could swear I love her, but I don't have proof I could swear I love her, but I don't have proof Look at me baby It’s all right in my eyes If you don’t turn around It might simply pass you by I'm stranded at This old beach house Look at the sun A car leaves town Might just be her Passing through ‘Bout certain things I ain’t too sure Those chained ghosts floating All around A fog topping the mount I could swear I love her, but I don’t have proof I could swear I love her, but I don't have proof Look at me baby It’s all right in my eyes If you don’t turn around It might simply pass you by

Woman I'm having bad dreams lying in our bed Are you crazy to call me that name Those things should never be said Didn't I give you everything Before everything turned all bad We’re painting Rorschach pictures on our sheets She’s my heavyweight woman And we kiss on the clouds Over Amazonian rainforests While the pistol shots shout She's got a mind like a conquistador Manipulator of crowds She's a salvation army With their horns playing loud She’s my heavyweight woman Woman Why are you treating me like that? Weren't thе circumstances mad enough Beforе the things I've said Doesn't really make sense It never did We’re reading signs in faces on the street She’s my heavyweight woman And we kiss on the clouds Over Amazonian rainforests While the pistol shots shout She's got a mind like a conquistador Manipulator of crowds She's a salvation army With their horns playing loud She’s my heavyweight woman How do you sleep? With your sad seaside eyes So easy to be held So cool with yourself She’s my heavyweight woman And we kiss on the clouds Over Amazonian rainforests While the pistol shots shout She's got a mind like a conquistador Manipulator of crowds She's a salvation army With their horns playing loud She’s my heavyweight woman

Sweet Marie 04:04
Late by nighttime we shall meet at your place Just as sacred as the holy garden gates You turned me on Then you turned away Showed up with your feathered hair Your shadowy eyes That brilliant disguise That we wear You told me you were a queen from the sea I told you so many different kinds of things About stormy weather And ships coming in Sailors praying and blue angels sin That striped tattered shirt Resembling a skirt Over your knee Oh Marie sweet Marie How could I not see How they took you away Finally made you believe That we could not be saved I’m no different than you told me to be I’m no different than the other worker bee I was always a gathering of dust You were always an object of lust Maybe there’s more Than that flattering score But hey we’ll see Oh Marie sweet Marie How could I not see How they took you away Finally made you believe That we could not be saved

Trouble 04:15
Pseudo law enforcement will enforce the law Psychic philanthropists fill their trophy jar Sunlight flashes dimly on the freezing tar Laser beams tear flashing and the rhythm parts Trouble I ain't feeling scared Trouble is a skin I wear Trouble is a blue sunrise Trouble is a lonesome rhyme I loved the lady more than any other thought I thought I wanted more love than a thousand thoughts So if you're up for love better do it with haste I don’t think you’re having too much time to waste Trouble is a thing to share Troublе are the boots I wear Troublе doesn't faze me none To trouble town my heart has gone I'm petrified in about two hours I’ll simply quit Everything must pass sometimes it needs a hit The moon was hidden deep last night was black and slow Everything returns and everything must glow Trouble is a witty ride Trouble is a thing I like Trouble’s gonna get me high Trouble is a lonesome rhyme

Don’t be so mad I only want you to love me Don’t be so mad You’re the cause of it all Don’t be so mad I am not gonna hurt you Don’t be so mad No don’t be so cruel When I was a young boy They taught me and everybody knows There’re children selling guns to the bums on skid row Who sell their kidneys to get a loan They’re only providing for their beloved families A thing neither of us has ever done So don’t Don’t be so mad I only want you to love me Don’t be so mad You’re thе cause of it all I made you breakfast Hеre is some coffee Don’t be so mad It’s all just good fun When I was a sailor I built an empire that spanned the seas Trade started blooming, markets were booming Like mono-crops and viral disease Honey this postcolonial order is a sad sad business But it’s not what’s going on ‘tween you and me So don’t Sure the world is mad, oh it’s so bad, yeah alright "You begin saving the world by saving one man at a time" Those are the stars Here is a rainbow Don’t be so mad It’s not that bad at all

Was heading into Babylon With the full moon in my eyes I didn’t speak to anyone No one even came to sight The square was quiet near big ruin Just a stray dog barked in fright I checked into Lorraine hotel I had you on my mind A guy named Phillip walked up to me He gave me his last bread Said “Go eat what you need my son I will have some wine instead.” We went down to the harbour Caught some fish, watched the seagulls’ flight We were quiet for a littlе while I had you on my mind Was leaving town by the brеak of day In the early morning light A lady washed her baby’s clothes She was standing by the roadside Our eyes met for a second Felt like our souls intertwined The earth shook for a little while I had you on my mind

Strange how The musician dies Every day a small death Though the muse abides Strange how He’s sitting in my room Lost you to a new man But I don't feel alone Symbiotic superstitions forming in Plato’s cave Karma baby karma Supersonic Midsummer waves crush the beach Where we both used to roam Soaked in the sun Covered in foam What a strange way to live Strange how You’re nothing but a verve Caused by electric currents Ravaging my nerves Strange how Though you’re not around Of all the pеople I meet The only existеnce I don’t doubt Symbiotic superstitions forming in Plato’s cave Karma baby karma Supersonic Midsummer waves crush the beach Where we both used to roam Soaked in the sun Covered in foam What a strange way to live

Colombia 04:27
So the night bursts And the radiant sparks Shove all over me This is not how it's supposed to work Just this afternoon We opened our wounds Stitched as good as possible Now they're breaking at the seams Is that the way it's gonna be forever? Give me shelter From that storm Or from that little wind that already does enough To roughen me up Damn this April fools’ weather Sun come rain come Hail and praise come’n’go Side by side and all the time Is that the way it's gonna be forever? The man inside the mind has lost the melon war The train has run and crushed the upper class The mud has dried and died and froze to ice Step on it to break the heart Colombia Is a state far away With green hills and coca leaves And some vicious criminality I chew on that drug That keeps me sweet Keeps me awake on fire And finally shuts me up Is that the way it's gonna be forever? The man inside the mind has lost the melon war The train has run and crushed the upper class The mud has dried and died and froze to ice Step on it to break the heart

Fly 04:27
Another town Another highway Another time She came around We got high We got thirsty We got it all And we could fly I was so proud how she could see me In the clouds In the sky How I could fly Movement cried Through every city Constant motion Through the night And like aircrafts And like speed trains And like freight ships We could fly Oh there is a veil around every bride In the clouds in the sky I could fly She must've got stranded Somewhere on the way While I was only looking for me And I wasn’t looking out for hеr So I looked for her And soon the night fеll The seagulls Cried her song The winds grew The horns blew And I knew She was gone Oh there is a veil Around every bride Oh it's such a shame To see her die Oh I should have looked out I should have smiled How in the clouds in the sky She could fly

about

Down in Portugal beschreibt eine Suche.

Was sie wohl gerade macht? Was würde sie wohl dazu sagen? Ob sie an ihn denkt?

Vielleicht ist die Suche, diese Reise, diese Fahrt ins Blaue, vielleicht ist das alles auch einfach eine Flucht. Und, vielleicht ist es auch einfach ein Album über Liebe.
